Prince Rogers Nelson news writes, In 1977, Prince was sequestered at the Record Plant in Sausalito, Calif., recording what would become For You, the 19-year-old's debut album for Warner Bros. Records. For two months, he had kept the label heads in the dark, so executives Lenny Waronker and Russ Thyret decided to pay their new artist a visit.
Listening to track-in-progress "So Blue," an impressed Waronker commented on how good it would sound after the bass was added. Prince interjected, "There is no bass on that song. Get out of my studio!," tossing out the very folks who were footing his bills.

Purple Ride: Chicago’s South Side Critical Mass Pays Tribute to Prince
Prince Rogers Nelson news writes, So it’s appropriate that Chicago’s South Side Critical Mass bike group paid tribute to the self-proclaimed “purple Yoda… from the heart of Minnesota” with a Prince tribute ride last Friday. They made a pilgrimage to a new mural in his honor on the side of an auto repair shop in the Avalon Park nieghborhood, and then pedaled east to purify themselves in the waters of Lake Minnetonka, I mean Michigan.

Supposed Inheritors Of Prince’s Estate Object To DNA Tests
Prince Rogers Nelson news writes, two of the people who have staked a claim to a share of Prince’s estate have objected to having DNA tests.
Brianna Nelson and Jeannine Halloran both say they are entitled to a claim on Prince’s estate as they are related to Prince’s half-brother, Duane Nelson Sr.
Brianna Nelson says she is Duane Nelson Sr's daughter, while Halloran is filing on behalf of her young daughter, who can only be identified as VN. Halloran says VN is Duane Nelson Sr’s granddaughter, which would make VN the grandniece of Prince.
Prince's Revolution Keyboardist Doctor Fink Weighs In on Madonna's Billboard Music Awards Tribute
Prince Rogers Nelson news writes, Revolution keyboardist "Doctor" Matt Fink, who continued playing with Prince for five years after the Prince dissolved the band in 1986, is threading the needle between critics who loved Madonna's performance and fans on social media who have been caustically critical.
"I'm a huge Madonna fan, always have been, and I know her heart was in, all of it," Fink tells Billboard. "My own personal opinion was I wish she'd done more of a medley, maybe, not just 'Nothing Compares' and go right into 'Purple Rain' with Stevie Wonder. I thought there should have been more thought put into it as a real tribute, give the fans more than two songs. Maybe she should've done three or four where it's more medley style and culminating with 'Purple Rain.'"

Prince Deserved a Hotter Tribute
Prince Rogers Nelson news writes, There’ve been lots of people defending Madonna’s tribute to Prince at the Billboard Music Awards. They point out that she wore a flashy suit and there was a purple chair. Wasn’t that well-staged?
Her singing was dull and boring. Think about it: would you ever use those words to describe Prince? Not even Stevie Wonder could save the day.

Representative Joe Hoppe was inspired to do something about it, and introduced the Personal Rights in Names Can Endure Act, or Prince Act. He hoped the legislation would give extended publicity control to Prince's estate trustees, limiting the use of his voice, name, signature and photographs for at least 50 years.

Billboard Music Awards Issues Statement In Defense Of Madonna’s Prince Tribute
Prince Rogers Nelson writes, In an earlier announcement, the showcase shared that Madonna will perform a special tribute to Prince at tomorrow night’s airing. But the program’s selection didn’t sit well with a few people who felt that a black artist should hold the honor of tributing the late musical icon. The show’s executive producer, Mark Bracco, supported their choice.
“Listen, I think everybody is entitled to their opinion and everyone can have their own opinion, but I will say that we are honored and could not be more excited for Madonna to be on the show and to pay tribute to someone that was her friend and her peer and her colleague,” he said. “I think it’s going to be fantastic.”
